What this involves
The holidays arrive fast. One week you're thinking about it in the abstract; the next, guests are at the door and you're staring at a kitchen that hasn't had a proper wipe-down since October. Dallas homes see a lot of foot traffic between Thanksgiving and New Year's — family visits, neighborhood gatherings, last-minute drop-ins — and a clean house is the one thing that makes all of it feel more manageable.
This post covers the rooms that matter most when guests are coming, the tasks that are easy to skip until they aren't, and when it makes sense to hand the whole thing off to a professional house cleaning team instead of spending your weekend on it.
Start Where Guests Actually Look
Holiday visitors spend most of their time in three or four rooms — clean those first.
Room by Room
The Rooms That Earn the Most Attention
Kitchen
Grease builds up on stovetop surfaces and hood vents faster than most people expect during heavy holiday cooking. Wipe appliance exteriors, clean inside the microwave, and scrub the sink before guests arrive. The refrigerator exterior — especially handles — picks up fingerprints constantly.
Living Room
Vacuum upholstered furniture and rugs, not just the floors. Dust shelving and entertainment units. If you have a fireplace and plan to use it, clear out any ash from previous fires and make sure the mantel is clear of seasonal clutter that's accumulated since last year.
Guest Bathroom
This is the room visitors form opinions in. Scrub the toilet bowl and under the rim. Clean the mirror and faucet fixtures until they're streak-free. Replace hand soap and put out fresh towels. If grout in the shower is darkened, a targeted scrub makes an immediate visual difference.
Entryway
First impressions happen here. Sweep or mop the floor, wipe down the door and handles, and clear out any clutter that's accumulated near the entrance. A clean entryway signals to guests that the rest of the house was tended to.
The Tasks That Get Skipped Every Year
These are the spots that look fine until someone else notices them.
- 01
Baseboards and door frames
Dust accumulates along baseboards and collects in door frame corners. A damp microfiber cloth handles both quickly — but most people skip it until they notice a guest looking down.
- 02
Light switch plates and drawer pulls
High-contact surfaces that almost never get wiped. A disinfecting wipe takes seconds and removes the visible grime that builds up from daily use.
- 03
Under and behind furniture
Dust bunnies collect under sofas and beds year-round and become visible when guests sit on the floor or look across the room at the right angle. Move pieces when you vacuum and get underneath.
- 04
Window sills and blinds
Natural light during shorter winter days makes dust on window sills and blinds more visible, not less. Wipe sills and run a damp cloth along blind slats before the holidays begin.

What Dallas Housemaids Customers Say
When I first contacted this company to get a quote, in my mind it was pretty high for what I was asking. So, I turned it down. No attitude towards me at all for saying no. I was treated just as nicely as I was when I was a potential customer. I waited a few weeks and considered looking somewhere. But, I remembered how I was treated on the "no". I thought, you know, I know they might be higher than others, but there's probably a reason they are. Indeed it was much better. I gave a tip for their services, then updated tip to give even more. Truly service above what was expected. So it is true..."You get what you pay for". They might not be inexpensive, but they are kind, hard working, attention to detail, overall an exceptional place I highly recommend.
They did a move out cleaning for me and they were amazing! Everything looked so clean (probably better than when the leasing office gave me the unit) and they only took an hour. I will be exclusively using them for any cleaning i need done. 😊
He was very good at what he did and very nice to work with
